FAST. Fierce. Fearless. Fantastic. Flexible. Fresh. Fun.
The Ateneo Swimming Team cannot be simply defined or described by one thing due to its united diversity and well-roundedness.
The Ateneo Swimming Team is much more than just a school varsity... it is a family.
The Blue Tankers are composed of 3 unified teams: the Junior Boys, the Senior Women’s and Senior Men’s.
Under the careful guidance of Head Coach Archimedes Lim and Assistant Coaches Ryan Tan, Sherwin dela Paz, JR Sia, Ruvini Francisco, and current Team Captains Rafael Basa, Gabriel Castelo (Boys), Paui Pena (Women’s) and Chico Gueco (Men’s), the team has developed its identity and continues to grow stronger because of its solid support system.
This is clearly evident in the recent accomplishments the Team has garnered in the many meets it has participated in and specifically in the past 2 UAAP Swimming competitions.
In the 71st UAAP Season the Women’s Team made Ateneo history by winning its first ever Championship. In the 72nd UAAP Season, the Boys Team won their unprecedented 5-peat victory – one of the longest winning streaks in UAAP High School history. The Men’s and Women’s Teams both placed 1st Runner Up which is an all-time high for the Men’s Team.
The FAST team embodies the very definition of what and how a student-athlete should be. Not only do they consistently break records, win medals, get awarded trophies and create history, but they also excel in academics and the arts. Every facet of an Ateneo Swimming Team member’s life is given 110%. Despite a rigorous training schedule, members make certain that their focus in not solely concentrated in their sport.
The Team’s deep desire to remain well-rounded and united gave birth to the Ateneo Aquathlon. The Ateneo Aquathlon’s purpose is not merely for fundraising, it also aims to increase awareness of the sport and to promote a healthy, active way of life. More importantly, it is seen as an opportunity to further develop the members’ leadership and organizational skills and to contribute to the definition of a holistic athlete.
The Ateneo Aquathlon 2010 will mark the 4th year of the Team’s successful efforts in this endeavor. In order to make the coming Aquathlon more exciting and accessible for everyone, the Team is proud to introduce the Aquathlon Lite, which consists of a 400 m swim leg and a 3 km run leg that is open to all age groups. It also retains the Aquathlon Classic, consisting of a 600 m swim leg and 6 km run leg, segregated by age groups. For this race option, there is still also the choice of competing as a relay team of 2 participants.
The Swim Leg will be done in our very own first-class indoor Loyola Schools Swimming Pool. (25m long) While the Run Leg will be done around the Ateneo Campus.
Every year the Team does its best to improve the quality of the Aquathlon experience. With that in mind, we are hoping that you find the modifications to the event to your liking and the online registration to be helpful.
We thank God, our family, friends and you for the continuing support you have shown the Ateneo Swimming Team family and we hope to see you at the Ateneo Aquathlon 2010!
